This large wooden diablo mexican mask is our sale of the week. This dance mask is from Tocuaro Michoacan in Mexico. it combines several typical elements from authentic mexican dance masks including animals (a snake, an eagle) and a human skull. The horns arecommon in diablo masks. While some mexican diablo masks represent the devil as a comic creature, this one is anything but comical. Obviously designed to frighten the viewer, this mask was probably used in religious ceremonies. This beautiful example sold at auction for $400.
